festival" will start at 15:00. This is the iconic brand event of
"China Interior Design Week". It has the distinctive characteristics
of internationality, professionalism, academicity, and high-end, and it is the
vane of the industry. With the theme of design driving force, this forum
invited industry masters, experts and scholars such as Chang Shana, Jeffrey
Shaw, and Anton Cibic to give lectures and discussions. At the meeting, the
guests faced the major issues of China's interior design, created an academic
highland for active dialogue with the world's design art, and expressed
constructive views on the content of the discussion.
Chang Shana emphasized that innovation is right, but the premise of
innovation is to learn, research, and innovate well, and to ensure the local
characteristics and not to blindly imitate foreign countries. She said that
Chinese traditional culture and history can be used as prototypes for creation,
and the younger generation of designers can "use the foreign for China and
the past for the present".
Nowadays, due to various factors, our artworks are being threatened more
and more. How can we ensure that our cultural heritage can be passed down?
“Technology can be used as a spark to ignite the design and protection of
artworks,” said Shao Zhifei, using advanced science and technology, combining
digital means with art, and combining the experimental nature of technology
with artistic value and aesthetic value. Reproduce the cultural traditions of
the past. At the same time, this technical means of artistic treatment can also
enable people to directly "dialogue" with the artwork, so as to
obtain a better sense of interaction and experience.
Aldo Cibic, his speech today is "Poetic Aesthetics in Daily
Life". He said that his design mainly reflects how an individual lives in
daily life. On the one hand, his appeal is to have personal temperature and
personal characteristics, on the other hand, it also has corresponding
functions. He hopes to design in a pleasant way, which he calls happy design.
Whether it is used for shape, color, texture and so on, he wanted to convey the
concept of pleasant design.
This "China International Interior Design Summit Forum" was
hosted by Professor Yang Dongjiang, Vice President of China Interior Decoration
Association and Vice Dean of Academy of Arts & Design , Tsinghua University

As one of the important sections of the "China Interior Design Week
and The Greater Bay Area Life Design Festival" on December 1th, the
"Foshan, China | the City of Tomorrow Forum 2019-Art Shaping the City and
the Fourth Public Art and Urban Design Summit Forum" hosted by the Central
Academy of Fine Art was officially launched at the Sofitel Lecong Hotel, Shunde
District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. Since 2016, "the City of
Tomorrow Forum" has been successfully held for three consecutive sessions.
Twelve experts from China, Britain, and Austria are invited to participate in
keynote speeches, academic discussions, seminars and other activities. With the
theme of "art shaping the city", everyone focused on how to systematically
build a "soft city", and jointly think about artistic thinking as one
of the core driving forces of innovative thinking. Where are the possibilities
of art in terms of new productivity? And what will it present in terms of urban
development? This forum is bound to produce multi-dimensional sparks, rich
nutrition and active value, and with the wisdom of high-end academic exchanges,
create an international academic summit that takes into account art, design and
urban design.
This forum is jointly held by Professor Fan Di'an, President of the Central
Academy of Fine Arts and Chairman of the China Artists Association. Professor

Fine Art and Secretary-General of "Sky Crane Awards" )
Zhang Chonghe, President of China National Light Industry Council,
delivered a speech. He said that in recent years, the Chinese government has
attached great importance to the human settlement and ecological environment.
China's urban construction has changed from the pursuit of scale to the pursuit
of quality, from hardware construction to soft city construction. The urban art
and artistic urbanization, has become the new mainstream, giving the city its
unique charm. In the forum, experts, scholars and designers in the fields of
urban planning, urban construction, and culture gathered to discuss the new
concept of urban design and the integration of art and city from the perspective
of art. It is believed that the forum will be a great inspiration for building
a livable city and a city where people and nature live in harmony.
Wang Xiaolin, Vice President of the Central Academy of Fine Art, said that
this event relied on the academic support of the Central Academy of Fine Arts,
with innovative design as the soul and life art as the fulcrum, to carry out a
series of activities. Among them, this summit forum is an important part of
"The Greater Bay Area Life Design Festival". The forum gathered art
experts from China, Britain, and Austria. Institutions and artists from cities
in the Greater Bay Area actively participated, making the forum professional
and innovative.
"What are the advantages of being a post-developed country in competing
countries?"Fang Xiaofeng, Deputy Dean of the Academy of Arts & Design
, Tsinghua University, said that China has not fully understood and valued its
own traditions during decades of development. In the process of learning from
Western experience, some things were copied, which also brought about problems
such as unbalanced urban development.
Keynote Speech
The first guest to share was the keynote speech "Innovation and Social
Value in Cities" by Donald Hyslop, head of urban culture,Tate Modern,UK.
He said that globalization and urbanization are irreversible trends. The
construction of public services, transportation, parks and public spaces have
become increasingly important topics. This is also the background of the
concept of "soft city". We not only want the prosperity of the city,
but also the spiritual richness.
"The cultural image of the city has disappeared. A city without art has no soul."In the decades of great development of urban construction, Chinese cities have undergone tremendous changes, but at the same time, the phenomenon of "a thousand cities with one side" has also appeared.
Wang Zhong, Dean of Urban Design Institute of Central Academy of Fine Art,
gave a keynote speech on "Art Shapes the City", regretting the lack
of culture and art in China's urban construction. He believes that the
development trend of world cities has changed from a functional city to a
humane city. China’s urban construction must shift from quantity to quality,
turning hard cities into soft cities.
Gerfried Stocker of Austria gave a keynote speech on "Creating the
Future". He took the Ars Electronica Festival as a case to introduce the
impact of digital technology on urban development. He introduced that the Arts
Electronic Festival is not only attended by artists and professionals, but also
a feast for ordinary people to experience art. Electronic music festivals are
becoming more and more influential. We held 16 cities in the same period. Some
places that did not have the conditions were transformed and contracted. A
festival changed the city's infrastructure.
Liu Yuedi, a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese
Academy of Social Sciences, gave a keynote speech on "The "Life
Aesthetics" of Chinese Town Design". He believed that beauty should
not only be external, it should be moisturizing things silently and integrated
into daily life. This is also the first time China has used aesthetics to
define the paradigm of life aesthetics. To revive the aesthetics of the small
town is to revive the aesthetics of Chinese life.
Discussion Session One
Keywords: city, art, tomorrow
Host: Ma Xiaowei?
Guests: Donald Hyslop (UK), Wang Zhong, Fang Xiaofeng, Bao Shidu, Li Fengyu
What is the meaning of the city art gallery to the city? In this regard,
Wang Zhong said that art gallerys are a catalyst for urban culture, and are
closely linked to the image of the city, tourism, economy, and community
culture, allowing the city to unleash more possibilities and make people feel
happy. What impact does agglomeration have on urban construction? Fang Xiaofeng
believes that agglomeration will bring conflicts, and the construction of a
city must be beautiful, and it must be more humane and intimacy. What advice
does the British experience have for China's urban construction? Culture and
art will play many roles, allowing people of different languages and
professions to gather together to participate in the construction of public
art.
Discussion Session Two
Key words: three characteristics of a city: transaction, defense, and
sanctity
Host: Zhou Rong
Guests: Gerfried Stocker, Liu Yuedi, Wang Yudong, Huang Jiancheng, Ma
Juncheng
What are the key steps for technology to promote urban construction
innovation? Gerfried Stocker said that it is very important to do
interdisciplinary experiments to bring together creative talents in different
fields and involve the general public. Liu Yuedi believes that cities should
have a healthy cultural ecology and avoid similarities. It is necessary to take
into account the differences and diversification of different cultures under the
Chinese territory, find their own different cultural paradigms, and unify them
from the development of diversification. Huang Jiancheng talked about his own
feelings at the end. He thinks the topic of the city is a hot topic. Art is the
common perception language of mankind, and the integration of art is more
effective for the soft development of the city. The core concept of art
building a city system is very important.
After 40 years of rapid development, the core of China's urbanization is
changing from urban expansion to urban renewal and regeneration. Urban culture
and sustainable development have also become an important theme. Currently, the
process of urbanization in China has entered the second stage. The core issue
at this stage is about the systematic construction of "soft cities".
The current urban planning and construction models to guide the future
development of Chinese cities cannot solve the problems arising from the
process of urbanization in China. Therefore, we put forward the comprehensive
concept of AUD (Art-oriented Urban Design). The concept advocates
culturally-oriented urban development ideas, activates and optimizes the
quality of urban public spaces with artistic thinking, highlights the city's
character, activates the city's cultural atmosphere, cultivates innovation
power, and creates sustainable economic and social values and cultural
heritage. At the same time, the construction of a "soft city" guided
by artistic intervention and urban design has reached a broad consensus. As an
important carrier of the "soft city" and AUD urban design concept,
public art can cultivate regional cultural innovation and cultural growth,
create a humanistic atmosphere and shape livable spaces, optimize city taste
and connotation, enhance city reputation and build a city Brand.

and other Asian countries and regions' design association presidents Attend the
meeting and speak. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Steve Leung and Professor
Yang Dongjiang.
Zhang Li, Chairman of China Interior Decoration Association, made a speech. She said, "I hope everyone can brainstorm and speak freely to create a bright future for Asian interior design!"Zhang Li said that the theme of this year's Roundtable Discussion Forum is a future-oriented design talent training mechanism. The conference will discuss new ideas and new models of talent training in various countries and regions, and discuss how to realize the organic connection of education chain, talent chain, industrial chain, and innovation chain, and create an open, collaborative, shared, and co-constructed design talent ecosystem.
Steve Leung, President of International Federation of Interior
Architects/Designers(IFI), explained the theme of the conference. He said that
our theme this year is the future-oriented talent training mechanism, and we
hope that the delegates can offer suggestions and insights on talent training
in the context of globalization. This conference was organized around three
aspects: the first is the current status of the training and development of
design talents in the country and the region; the second is the level
certification of designers; the third is how to cooperate in certification in
various regions. Steve Leung urged that we must now look to the new generation
and join hands to promote the development of innovative talent training
mechanisms.
Professor Yang Dongjiang, vice president of China Interior Decoration Association, deputy director and secretary-general of the Design Professional Committee, gave a brief explanation on the work of China Interior Decoration Association around "talent training". He introduced that since the association was founded 30 years ago, talent training has always been a strategic task. The association not only organized and wrote professional training materials for interior designers, but also carried out relevant training for interior designers. At this stage, the association mainly carries out the training of interior designer talents from four aspects: first, the professional skill level evaluation and certification of interior designers; second, holding the China Design Trend-Original Design Competition, digging out design talents, and promoting original design; Third, set up a series of authoritative awards, including Top Ten People of the Year, Top Ten Institutions, Top100, and Top Ten Outstanding Young People of Guanghua Longteng Award, etc.; fourth, hold China Interior Design Week to promote design exchanges and the transformation of design innovation results.
Lea A. Aziz, the new president of the Asia-Pacific Space Designers
Association, pointed out in his speech that China and Indonesia are both
countries with a long history, and the training of design talents cannot be
separated from culture. At present, Indonesia has achieved certain results in the
integration of multiculturalism and design, as well as the diversity of design
talent training. In 2015, Indonesia opened a national certification mechanism
for design talents and will promote the development of this mechanism through
more empirical studies in the future. Indonesia is an archipelago country.
Universities in different regions have different standards for talent training,
so it is particularly important to strengthen exchanges and improve students'
critical thinking, emotional intelligence, creativity, and cooperation
(especially the ability of cross-border collaboration). Lea expressed that
hoply various industry associations in Asia can work together to promote the
formation of a common certification project.
Muhamad Luthfi Hasan, secretary general of the Himpunan Desainer Interior Indonesia(HDII), introduced the current situation of training and development of Indonesian interior design talents in his speech. In recent years, Indonesia's interior design industry has developed gratifyingly. Many designers have undertaken important and large-scale international projects, and some designers have won awards in international competitions. At present, HDII cooperates with 35 universities to hold design competitions for college students across the country, aiming to improve the practical ability of young talents in interior design. He looks forward to the emergence of more outstanding design talents in some specialized fields in the future, especially in transportation, health, and culture.
Hu Wenliang, president of the Interior Design Confederation - Singapore,
said that in order to improve the professional level of design talents, they
initiated the PDP project, inviting professionals in various fields to share
their project experience and provide designers with a cross-field perspective.
In addition, they work with relevant government departments and provide policy
support to better develop interior design talents in Singapore. Hu Wenliang
pointed out that the current boundaries between countries are being dismantled
due to digitalization, and it is a question that every association should think
about to improve designers' ability to cope with the digital age.
Ar. Tanuja B.K, president of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers,
stated in his speech that the Indian Institute of Interior Designers was
established in 1972 and currently has about 8,000 registered members. Although
the number is huge, 95% of them are architects and only 5% are interior
designers with formal training. In recent years, in order to promote the
cultivation of design talents in India, the association has launched the
"Design Excellence Award". Among them, the "Annual Best Designer
Under 35 Years Od Award" is specially set up to encourage young design
talents. In terms of interior design education, the Indian Institute of
Interior Designers held an interior design education conference last year and
also set up corresponding scholarship programs to encourage young designers to
exchange and study around the world.
Hiroyuki Niwa, president of the Japan Interior Designers Association(JID),
mentioned in his speech that although the Japan Interior Designers Association
was established in 1958, the profession
of interior designers has not received the attention it deserves in Japan. At
present, there are more than 20 groups related to interior design in Japan. In
order to promote the development of interior design in Japan and effectively
deal with the increasingly serious problems of population decline and aging
problems in Japan, it is necessary to unite these 20 groups to cultivate design
talents. In the future, he hopes to develop educational resources in
collaboration with local designers' associations across Asia.。
Park Inhak, president of president of the Korean Interior Architects and
Designers Association, expresses in the speech that the Korean Interior
Designers Association was established in 1979. In order to discover new
designers, they set up the Korean Interior Architecture Awards and specially
established the Korea interior designers Youth Committee (DISCO). In terms of
the certification system for interior designer qualifications, South Korea has
two nationally recognized qualification examinations every year. Regarding the
training of design talents, he made suggestions in three aspects. First, in
terms of education, design talents must have interdisciplinary qualities and
combine theory with practice. Second, in terms of design enterprises, we should
eliminate empiricism, improve the working environment, and realize the
separation of design business and business operation. Third, in terms of
designers, diversified exploration and cross-field communication should be
carried out to achieve efficient work and effective rest. "Design is the
act of solving problems and breaking through conventions!"
When sharing the training of design talents in Singapore, Mr.Ong Sheng
Keat, the president of the Society of Interior Designers – Singapore(SIDS), said
that the awareness of interior design should be promoted in the whole society,
excellent design should be recognized, and the brand building, talent
evaluation standards and resource sharing mechanism of interior design in
Singapore should be improved. The association has cooperated with a number of
government agencies to launch a new talent certification standard for 2020,
which will conduct interior design talent certification in the three fields of
interior architecture, interior design, and interior decoration. In addition,
the association cooperated with Singapore’s vocational education sector last
year and issued an interior decoration vocational education certificate. In
addition, starting from last year, the Singapore Interior Design Association
launched an exchange program to select 40 young designers under the age of 16
from Singapore to six cities including Kunming, Chongqing, Jinan and Hangzhou
for exchange and learning.
Montip Lynn Assoratgoon, vice president of the Thailand Interior Designers
Association(TIDA), shared the history and current situation of the training of
design talents in Thailand. The first Bachelor of Arts program in Interior
Design in Thailand was established in 1956 and the Thailand Interior Designers
Association (TIDA) was established in 1985. Thailand has issued laws
specifically for architects. Architecture, interior design, landscape and urban
design are closely related fields. The promulgation of relevant laws shows that
the government has recognized the importance of this field. In 2003, TIDA wrote
special instructions for interior designers and introduced more than 20
certification courses. This is the basic situation of the development of the
Thai design industry. In recent years, the trend of Thai interior design has
changed a lot, and people hope to tell traditional stories in new ways. At
present, Thailand is facing new challenges. The Mekong River is Thailand's
mother river, but recently it is facing the danger of drying up. This is a
problem that designers must face. "Designers are not only in the drawings,
but also in the actions to take responsibility for the future.
Joey Ho, president of the Hong Kong Interior Design Association, said that
the Hong Kong Interior Design Association has been exploring how to carry out
professional certification since 2005. The association conducted a wide range
of industry research and wrote reports on various aspects including designer
expertise, behavioral ethics, rule recommendations, and professional standards.
By making the report public to the whole community, the Association hopes to
achieve the following results: First, to liaise closely with the education
sector and pass on new ideas to the education sector in Hong Kong; Second, the
industry and industry cooperation to better understand the needs of the
industry; Third, to attract all the design talents to communicate with each

relatively complete mechanism for professionals, including work ethics,
professional skills and other aspects. At present, design thinking has become
an important force in the face of future development. They hope that Taiwanese
designers can actively speak out and face the future on social issues such as
transportation, public medical care, and aging.
In the end, IFI CEO Shashi Caan said that he was very pleased to see the great progress made by various countries in the cultivation of interior design talents. In recent years, the world has faced tremendous changes: the development of science and technology, scarcity of resources, changes in population structure, environmental problems, etc. are happening all over the world. The interior design industry must cater for the needs of people of different ages from 6 to 90 years old. Therefore, the establishment of qualification certification, laws and regulations, and industry standards are issues that need to be resolved urgently. She hopes that countries will strengthen cooperation in the cultivation of design talents, and that the interior design industry will receive more attention internationally and in various countries.
